Product Summary
The GR IV puts a 25.7MP APS-C sensor and fixed 28mm-equivalent f/2.8 lens into a pocket-sized body for street, travel and everyday photography. It starts in around 0.6 seconds, while Snap Focus supports the fast, instinctive shooting style that has built such a following.
Fourteen Image Control options include two Cinema looks, with custom settings for creating a distinctive aesthetic straight from the camera. At just 262g, with 5-axis stabilisation and 53GB of built-in storage, this is a remarkably capable digital camera to carry everywhere, which helps explain why stock can be so difficult to find.
In More Detail
A fixed focal length prime lens, done properly
The built-in 18.3mm f/2.8 prime provides a 28mm-equivalent view, with seven elements in five groups including three aspherical elements to control distortion and chromatic aberration while maintaining detail towards the edges. Forgoing a zoom mechanism also helps keep the optics bright and the body exceptionally slim.
APS-C quality in your pocket
A 25.74MP back-illuminated CMOS sensor combines with GR Engine 7 for detailed RAW and JPEG files, broad tonal control and sensitivity up to ISO 204800. An AA Filter Simulator uses sensor shift to reduce moiré when required while retaining the detail advantages of a design without a conventional anti-aliasing filter.
Up to 6 stops of stabilisation
Five-axis Shake Reduction provides up to 6 stops of compensation at the centre and 4 stops towards the edges, correcting pitch, yaw, roll and shift movement. DR II ultrasonic cleaning combines with anti-stain and antistatic treatment to help reduce dust adhesion.
Ready in around 0.6 seconds
Start-upis quick so you never miss a moment, with faster macro activation and lens retraction than the previous generation. Hybrid AF combines image-plane phase and contrast detection, while Snap Focus works at a preset distance and Full Press Snap can bypass conventional autofocus when immediate response takes priority.
Get closer
Macro mode focuses from approximately 6–15cm with up to 0.35x magnification, adding close-ups of food, objects and smaller details to the possibilities of the fixed wide-angle view.
Shoot one-handed
At 262g including battery and memory card, the magnesium alloy body features a revised grip and thumb contour while retaining its exceptionally slim profile. Front and rear e-dials, exposure compensation button, ADJ dial and Fn button provide extensive customisation and quick access to frequently used settings.
Faster control over the moment
Snap Distance Priority AE lets you specify subject distance and depth of field, with exposure selected around those choices for faster snapshot shooting. Program Auto Ex also provides quick access to Aperture Priority or Shutter Priority behaviour through the front and rear control dials.
Create your look in-camera
Fourteen Image Control options include Cinema Yellow and Cinema Green for distinct film-inspired colour. Saturation, hue, key, contrast and grain can be adjusted, including grain strength and size, with favourite combinations saved as custom settings for a consistent personal look.
Wide open in brighter light
A built-in 2-stop ND filter reduces incoming light, supporting wider apertures and slower shutter speeds in bright conditions without requiring an additional filter.
App and wireless sharing
Bluetooth 5.3 and dual-band Wi-Fi connect with the GR WORLD app for wireless transfer, remote shooting, location information and firmware management, providing a straightforward route from dedicated camera capture to mobile sharing.
Clear outdoor viewing
The fixed 3.0-inch touchscreen uses air-gapless construction to reduce reflections, with reinforced glass for durability. Outdoor Monitor Setting adds automatic brightness adjustment according to ambient conditions.
More ways to frame the world
Bracketing, interval shooting, multiple exposure and interval composite expand the creative options, while crop modes provide 35mm-equivalent framing at around 15MP or 50mm at around 7MP.
RAW files can be processed in-camera, while Full HD recording reaches 60p. This remains a photography-first model rather than a 4K hybrid.
53GB built in
Internal storage provides approximately 53GB before a memory card is required, with microSD, microSDHC and microSDXC UHS-I media supported for expansion. The DB-120 is rated for around 250 shots and charges through USB-C for convenient top-ups from a compatible power source.

Frequently Asked Questions
Who is it best suited to?
Street photographers, travellers and creators who prioritise stills, portability and distinctive in-camera looks. The fixed wide-angle view particularly suits cities and everyday storytelling, while wildlife, sport and video-led content are less natural territory.
Does it have a zoom?
No. The fixed 18.3mm f/2.8 prime provides a 28mm-equivalent view, with 35mm and 50mm crop modes available for tighter framing at reduced resolution.
What are Snap Focus and Full Press Snap?
Snap Focus works at a preset focusing distance, while Full Press Snap can capture immediately at that distance without waiting for autofocus. Both support fast, instinctive shooting.
Do I need a memory card?
No. Around 53GB of storage is built in. A microSD, microSDHC or microSDXC UHS-I card can be added when more capacity is required.
Does it have a viewfinder or tilting screen?
No built-in viewfinder is provided and the 3.0-inch touchscreen is fixed. Optional external optical viewfinders are available separately.
Can it record 4K video?
No. Recording reaches Full HD at up to 60p. This is primarily a stills camera rather than a video-focused hybrid.
Which version should I choose?
The standard version includes a 2-stop ND filter. The HDF substitutes a Highlight Diffusion Filter for softer highlights, while the Monochrome is dedicated to black-and-white photography.

Our Verdict
This compact is desirable. It does something increasingly rare, which is deliver serious stills quality in a format you want to carry everywhere. It’s discreet, stylish and fast, with enough creative control to satisfy experienced photographers while remaining approachable for creators moving beyond a phone.
Existing GR users gain faster operation, improved stabilisation, more resolution and significantly more internal storage while retaining the familiar 28mm formula. Newcomers get one of the most distinctive routes into dedicated photography.
For a different look, consider the HDF or Monochrome versions.
If you’re upgrading, trading in an older model or other equipment can also help fund the move.
