Product Summary
The classic 50mm-equivalent angle of view provides a natural perspective with enough subject isolation for portraits while remaining versatile for street photography, travel and everyday scenes. It also provides an accessible step up from a standard kit zoom for photographers who want to explore a brighter aperture and more deliberate prime-lens photography.
At f/1.8, the maximum aperture helps maintain faster shutter speeds as available light falls while providing greater control over background blur. The compact 156g construction keeps the overall system particularly portable, with splashproof, dustproof and freezeproof protection extending its usefulness outdoors.
Nine elements in seven groups include two aspherical elements to control aberrations, while ZERO coating helps reduce flare and ghosting. MSC autofocus operates quickly and quietly for stills and video, with a 25cm minimum focusing distance providing additional flexibility for closer details.

In More Detail
Natural Perspective
This model offers a 50mm equivalent focal length, which closely matches the way the human eye perceives the world. This natural angle of view captures images with minimal distortion, making it ideal for everyday photography. Whether you want to document candid moments on the street, capture natural portraits, or snapshots of daily life, the lens allows you to shoot images as you see them.

Bokeh and Depth of Field
The fast aperture is suited to creating sharp subjects with soft, defocused backgrounds. This shallow depth of field is ideal for portraits, still life, and other genres where isolating the subject is key. Often referred to as bokeh, this aesthetic quality draws attention to the subject while delivering a beautifully blurred backdrop. The circular 7-blade diaphragm enhances this effect, ensuring smooth transitions in out-of-focus areas for a polished, professional look.

Everyday Versatility
Compact and weighing just 156g, the second-gen. model is easy to carry and suitable for a wide range of situations. From portraits of family and friends to intricate still life and street photography, its small size and 0.25m minimum focusing distance provide the flexibility to shoot different types of subjects with ease. In fact the OM System OM-3 Camera with 25mm f/1.8 II Lens Kit is the perfect setup for urban creators who create content on the streets, downtown or throughout city parks.
High-Quality Optics and ZERO Coating
The optical design of 9 elements in 7 groups, including 2 aspherical elements, ensures edge-to-edge sharpness and excellent levels of clarity. ZERO coating minimises flare and ghosting, even in difficult backlighting, delivering high-contrast, vibrant images that maintain detail across the frame. This attention to optical quality makes the lens a strong choice for photographers who need consistently high quality performance.

Weather Sealing
It features a basic weather-sealed construction, rated to IPX1 standards when paired with a compatible OM System body. This ensures dust and splash resistance, allowing creators to work confidently in outdoor environments, even when conditions are less than ideal.

Frequently Asked Questions
Should I choose the 17mm or 25mm F/1.8 II?
The 17mm provides a wider 34mm-equivalent view that suits street photography, travel and scenes where more surroundings are important. This 25mm provides a tighter 50mm-equivalent perspective with greater emphasis on the subject, making it particularly attractive for portraits and general photography.
What changed from the original?
The principal upgrade is weather protection, with the second-generation version gaining splashproof, dustproof and freezeproof construction. The optical configuration remains nine elements in seven groups, while weight increases slightly from 137g to 156g.
Does it have image stabilisation?
No stabilisation is built into the lens. It can instead benefit from in-body image stabilisation when paired with a compatible Micro Four Thirds camera.
Is it suitable for portraits?
Yes. The 50mm-equivalent angle of view provides a natural perspective for environmental and wider portraits, while the aperture allows the subject to be separated from the background. A longer focal length may be preferable for tighter head-and-shoulders portraits.
